WordPress Photos Project Work, February 2026

This month was a little slower for me, but I did some interested work and passed a significant milestone!

Flagged images

I mentioned last month that I can moderate images that Google has flagged as potentially problematic. I did maybe 15 of those this month, but I got some screenshots, and wanted to show you what it looks like.

Here’s what the admin looks like on the Flagged page. Under each image you can see the reason Google flagged it.

I chose to edit this one, titled “Bbq”, flagged as “Medical”.

And here’s what it looks like in the moderation tool. On the left is what you see when you open it, and then when you click it you can see the actual image.

As you can see on the right of the post, I can see the tags, which all fit a BBQ, and the description is Bbq, so I felt pretty sure it was safe. I think I’ve mentioned that there have only been a handful of porn images submitted out of 30,000+ submissions, and I don’t think any violence ever. That really surprises me, I really thought the project would be inundated with garbage. What a blessing it hasn’t.

Tag Management

A list of tags about Ganesh in the WordPress admin

I mentioned last month that I’ve been working on cleaning up junk, or wrong, tags. I deleted 30 or so empty ones this month, but the most interesting process this month was cleaning up tags related to Ganesh. Ganesh is a god in the Hindu religion, but given the nature of Indian culture, the name often spelled or referred to in a variety of ways. We had these tags:

  • ganesh
  • ganesha
  • God Ganesh
  • Lord Ganesh
  • Utssav Ganesh
  • Cute Ganesh

I suspected some could be merged, but I didn’t feel I had the cultural awareness to do it properly, so I reached out to Yam B Chhetri and Bigul Malayi. Yam helped some, but said Bigul would be more helpful and indeed he was. We merged all of those into ‘ganesh‘. There were some other tags like “Ganesh Temple” which I left, because it was for the temple and not the god.

Milestone!

Near the end of the month I moderated my 4,000th image. That’s by no means the most of anyone, but it’s up there. I did have the advantage of starting earlier than most people. Here’s to 4,000 more!

See you next month!
